Zimmern wins James Beard Foundation award

The James Beard Foundation has announced the winners for its book, broadcast and journalism awards for 2012, and Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern took home a broadcast media award.

Zimmern, who will be featured in the upcoming July/August 2012 issue of Renew, won the James Beard award for an On-Location Television Program for his work on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, which he also produces.

He also won a James Beard award in 2010 for his work on Bizarre Foods.

The television personality, chef, food writer and teacher is open about his past struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, which even left him homeless for a time being. He says after hitting bottom, after bottom, after bottom it was finally in the early ‘90s that he sought help and has been in recovery ever since.
