Kat Von D talks growing in recovery, consciously living

Tattoo artist, model and reality TV star Kat Von D says it took getting sober to truly live consciously, and now with five years in recovery she’s finding happiness.

Last week, the tatted up TV personality of TLC’s LA Ink sat down with Rosie O’Donnell of OWN’s The Rosie Show to discuss her battles with addiction. While she had months of delving into heavier drugs and substances, Von D says alcohol was her ticket downward.

“I woke up one day and said I didn’t want to drink anymore,” Von D tells O’Donnell.

In the process, Von D said she discovered a lot of her friends weren’t really her friends. And when she was drinking —and ultimately filming some of her reality show while using — it was an awful time in her life. But she grew from it and is happy where she is now.

The last episode of The Rosie Show, OWN announced last week, will air March 30, 2012.
