First San Diego woman mayor admits to billion-dollar gambling addiction

A former San Diego mayor has stuck up an agreement with the courts to repay millions of dollars she admitted to stealing from a charity fund to feed her gambling addiction.

Maureen O'Connor told a federal court judge that she misappropriated $2 million from her late husband's charitable foundation. Over the course of a decade, she said Thursday, she won more than $1 billion but lost even more.

O'Connor, who was the Democratic leader of San Diego from 1986 from 1992, agreed to attempt to repay the debt in return for the government deferring prosecution, Fox News reported today.
