Elton John: Without sobriety I would’ve been a rock ‘n’ roll casualty

In a reflective moment, Elton John recently said if he didn’t get sober in 1990, his life would have ended and been just another rock ‘n’ roll tragedy.

In an interview with E! News, the 65-year-old legend said without his sobriety, he would have seen an end similar to singer Whitney Houston. The star was found dead Feb. 11. The official cause was accidental drowning, cocaine use and heart disease.

“I could have so easily ended up like Whitney Houston,” Elton John tells E! News. “It’s a miracle I didn’t because I’m sure I did as much cocaine as she ever did.”

He added that if he didn’t have the willpower and strength to finally quit and get into recovery, he wouldn’t be the person he is today.

“I wouldn’t have (my son) Zachary, (my husband) David (Furnish). I wouldn’t have anything. I’d probably be dead.”
