‘True Blood’ star talks addiction

Stephen Moyer, star of the hit show “True Blood” opened up about his addiction at a panel discussion at the CLARE Foundation.

Moyer has been sober since he went to rehab in his native England 14 years ago. However, before that, he said he used substances to chase the high he felt from performing in the London state scene.

“There's this rush that happens from doing our job, this whirring buzz, and you want to continue that buzz,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

By speaking at the panel – which was looking at substance abuse in Hollywood – Moyer hoped to break through the stigma surrounding addiction.

“Self-loathing motivates the desire to get loaded in the first place, and post-sobriety, there is the shame of admitting all of your [faults],” he said. “It's about education. And it's about getting rid of that shame.”
