Where to Go When You Need Support

The resources on this list will help you take the first steps toward treating your chemical dependencies, modify your use of alcohol or other drugs or any other addictions and hang-ups. Recognizing that you need to do something is the first step toward a more fulfilling life and we urge you to look into these alternatives.

Smart Recovery

Smart Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) is a non-Twelve Step program that helps individuals gain independence from addiction to substances or activities “based on scientific knowledge” and “evidence-based practices.” There are more than 600 face-to-face meetings nationwide each week, as well as online groups.

LifeRing

LifeRing is a network of support groups for people who want to live free of alcohol and other addictive drugs. LifeRing works through positive social reinforcement. The meeting process empowers the Sober Self within each of us.

Moderation Management (MM)

MM is a behavioral change program and national support group network for people concerned about their drinking and who desire to make positive lifestyle changes. MM empowers individuals to accept personal responsibility for choosing and maintaining their own path, whether moderation or abstinence. MM promotes early self-recognition of risky drinking behavior, when moderate drinking is a more easily achievable goal.

Secular Organizations for Sobriety (SOS)

SOS is an alternative recovery method for alcoholics or drug addicts who are uncomfortable with the spiritual content of available in Twelve Step programs. SOS takes a reasonable, secular approach to recovery and maintains that sobriety is a separate issue from religion or spirituality.
