Before “X Factor” U.K. judge Nicole Scherzinger’s VH1 “Behind the Music” episode aired this week, preview clips showed the former Pussycat Doll admitting her recovery from self-harming. After its airing, audiences also learned Scherzinger has struggled with an eating disorder.
In the “Behind the Music” special, which aired Oct. 7, the singer and reality TV judge lets it all out. She says her first photo shoot with the all-female group, Pussycat Dolls, is what started her downward spiral into bulimia.
“It was all new to me and I was incredibly scared,” she says. “I was not comfortable with my body.
“I hated myself. I really was so disgusted with myself and so embarrassed. I felt so alone. I was in a group, and I never felt so alone in my life.”
And it wasn’t until the music group disbanded in 2009 that Scherzinger sought help. That was when she began therapy, she says, to save her life.
Since the end of the Pussycat Dolls, and Scherzinger working on her recovery, the musician won “Dancing With the Stars” in 2010 and became host of “The X Factor.” She left the show earlier this year, but says the best chapter in her life is still on its way.
“I feel on top of the world and today I feel like the sexiest woman alive,” she says.
