Thomas Kinkade, well known as the “Painter of Light,” died of “accidental acute intoxication from alcohol and an anti-anxiety medication,” which was made public during an autopsy report Monday.
According to Reuters, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office reported Kinkade’s death was labeled accidental with the cause being “acute ethanol and Diazepam intoxication.” Diazepam is the active ingredient in Valium.
Kinkade was 54.
Patrick Kinkade, Thomas’ brother, told the media after Thomas’ death that the painter struggled with alcohol addiction for a number of years and relapsed shortly before his death.
