Money woes feeding porn addiction?

Statistics show that pornography addiction has been steadily increasing over the last three years and some experts attribute the rist to the recession and financial hardships.

“Many men over the last five years have experienced increased stress,” says Emma James, a researcher, therapist and hypnotherapist from the UK. “We look for escapes at times of stress and anything where we can forget about the issues of our lives. And pornography, because it is so freely available on the net, is one of those escapes.”

At James' practice, porn addiction therapy inquiries have risen at least 30 percent in those five years. The majority of those seeking help were men experiencing serious family and financial issues. Widely distributed studies mirror the therapist's findings.

“If people are experiencing difficulty with pornography addiction and a compulsion to the point they actually don’t even think about it and it is automatic response as a way of escapism, then it needs to be addressed,” she said. “It can have severe impact on interpersonal and sexual relationships which is when they usually seek help.”.
