Fame came quickly to actor Chris Klein in the late 1990s with hits such as American Pie and Election. Unfortunately, so did alcoholism, which he says nearly cost him his career and life.
But now with 19 months of sobriety under his belt, Klein is looking toward to positive times once again while continuing to work on his recovery. The actor, 33, recently opened up to People magazine about his struggles with addiction and says he knows he would have died if he wouldn’t have gotten sober.
“… I think about that every single day,” Klein told People.
It was finally after two DUI arrests and a 96-day jail sentence that Klein said he knew he had to make the effort to get into recovery.
“It got to the point where I was a fragile shadow of the young man that came into this business,” he tells People. “Today, I'm the luckiest guy alive.”
Klein is starring in the upcoming new movie, American Reunion, a sequel of American Pie, which hits theaters April 6.
