Rapper Eminem, who began “The Monster Tour” with Rihanna on August 7, took a moment out of his set recently to dedicate a song to people struggling with addition. Before launching into a performance of “I’m not afraid” Slim Shady addressed the crowd.
“This song I want to dedicate to anyone who ever lost anyone to addiction,” he said, according to Billboard. He also reflected on his own issues with addiction, telling fans, “I could not have gotten through it without you.”
Eminem opened up about his addiction to prescription pills in the 2012 documentary “How to make money selling drugs.” One overdoes landed Eminem in the hospital in dire straights.
“Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died,” he said in the film. “My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis, they didn’t think I was gonna make it.”
The rapper entered rehab in 2005, and used that experience as inspiration for his 2010 album, “Recovery.”
