Elton John has achieved a quarter century of sobriety by focusing on one day at a time, according to the superstar himself.
The singer, 68, took to social media to celebrate, writing on Instgram, “25 years of sobriety today. One day at a time.” The post included hashtags #gratitude #happiness and #blessed.
During the 1970's, John was introduced to cocaine by his manager, and he became addicted to cocaine and alcohol. Last year, John said on the Today show that he “wasted such a big part of my life” being “a drug addict and self-absorbed.”
Although he has been sober for more than two decades, John told NPR in 2012 that he still has relapse dreams.
“I still dream, twice a week at least, that I've taken cocaine and I have it up my nose. And it's very vivid and it's very upsettings, but at least it's a wake-up call,” he said.
